Located approximately halfway through Stage 38 of the Via Francigena, about 10 km before Bolsena, pilgrims pass through San Lorenzo Nuovo. This village is situated on a hill at an altitude of 503 meters in the northern chain of the Volsini mountains, north of Lake Bolsena. The name of the village comes from the previous inhabited center of San Lorenzo alle Grotte, located lower down towards the lake, which was abandoned in 1774 due to its unhealthy location.
