Stage 38 of the Via Francigena concludes at the Basilica of Santa Cristina in the town of Bolsena. Located on the northern shore of Lake Bolsena, it was founded in 264 B.C. under the name Volsinii Novi, which means “New Volsinii” after the ancient Etruscan city of Volsinii was destroyed by the Romans.

The large Tourist Information Office of Visit Bolsena is situated at Piazza Matteotti 9A, right on the Via Francigena route, and offers the following services:

• Sale and stamping of Credentials, including for animals
• Consultation of material about the Via Francigena in Tuscia, Siena, and other cities
• Access to historical publications, guides, and brochures in Italian, English, Dutch, and German
• Sale of the Bolsena CARD (€3), which provides access to an audio guide in Italian, English, and German via smartphone; it also allows direct connection to the Visit Bolsena website for all informations
• Restroom facilities are not available within the office, but Pilgrims can use those located in the lakeside parking area.
