Stage 38 of the Via Francigena concludes at the Basilica of Santa Cristina in the town of Bolsena. Located on the northern shore of Lake Bolsena, it was founded in 264 B.C. under the name Volsinii Novi, which means “New Volsinii” after the ancient Etruscan city of Volsinii was destroyed by the Romans.
