In the medieval village of San Pellegrino, in the historic heart of Viterbo along the Via Francigena, you’ll find the ceramic workshop “Bottega d’Arte” by Daniela Lai, boasting decades of experience in the field of ceramics in Viterbo and Tuscia. The workshop is located in a unique place: a stone building dating back to the year 1000.
With patience and expertise, Daniela will introduce us to her fascinating workshop in the heart of medieval Viterbo and the world of ancient ceramics.
The experience will start with a brief explanation of clay decoration and processing techniques.
The workshop involves decorating a small plate using techniques and colors from that period. Once the design is chosen, the “spolvero” technique is used to transfer the design onto the already-fired piece.
The kiln will complete the magic, and you can either pick up the finished piece after three days or have it shipped to your home.
Following that, there will be a transfer to Cinzia Chiulli’s workshop “Percorsi Artistici,” where you’ll find an expert who has been operating in the artisanal and historical-artistic field for years, never forgetting the educational aspect of Viterbo’s traditions. The workshop involves creating “ceramic footprints” where participants, like passing pilgrims in Viterbo, will leave an eternal record of their visit to the workshop.
The uniqueness of these creations lies in the shape and color of the mineral pigment used for the signatures, intentionally gray to recall the color of peperino, the stone with which Viterbo is built.
The fee includes:
The largest tourism aggregation in Tuscia: over 60 partners including municipalities, authorities, companies, associations.
